Doha: Qatar and Uruguay have stressed the importance of equal access to the vaccine, without racial, geographic, or purchasing power restrictions.
The joint statement issued yesterday, on the occasion of the official visit of President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay H E Dr. Luis Lacalle Pou to Doha from December 11 to 14, 2021, said that the two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, and on enhancing the ability to face the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and protect the health of their citizens and the economy of their countries.
They valued the important role of the medical sector in combating the pandemic and stressed the importance of equal access to the vaccine, without racial, geographic, or purchasing power restrictions.
It was emphasised that Uruguay is a partner of the State of Qatar, especially in the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030, and that it can contribute to the country’s economic diversification plans, which are based on sustainable investments in the medium and long term abroad.
Uruguay presented to Qatar the advantages of the logistical promotional systems and investments in the country on the basis that these areas offer interesting opportunities to attract Qatari investments and promote business between the two parties.
H H the Amir and H E the President held fruitful talks that focused on relations between the two countries and discussed ways to enhance initiatives to achieve positive results that contribute to supporting and strengthening them in all fields.
The President congratulated H H the Amir on Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, wishing it success in its upcoming hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The President also expressed thanks and appreciation for the invitation his country received from the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) to participate in the events dedicated to the celebration of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the opening of the Katara Football Art Exhibition of the First World Cup in 1930, which was won by Uruguay.
The two parties also welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the youth and sports fields, and an MoU for cooperation in the education field, and an agreement on a mutual exemption from entry visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, private, official, regular and mission passports, as well as an MoU for cooperation in the field of diplomatic training between the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Artigas Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
