Doha, Qatar: US Embassy in Doha warned of scamsters targeting students in the country who are keen on pursuing education in the United States, adding that it is committed to safeguarding the educational pursuits of Qatar residents.
“In recent months, there has been an increase in fraudulent offers claiming to promote educational opportunities, scholarships, and training programs in the United States. The US Embassy urges all Qatari residents to be cautious and not share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited calls, texts, social media messages, or emails,” the embassy said in its statement.
It further added that the Embassy provides reliable information on US university applications and educational opportunities free of charge.
The US Embassy also added that it offers the following:
- Accurate Information: It offers accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited post-secondary institutions in the United States.
- Free Information: It will never ask you to pay or provide banking/personal information to access its educational resources.

The embassy also called on victims of such internet scams to not send money, adding any money that one might already have sent will probably not be recoverable. It also instructed residents to end all communication with the scammer immediately and contact Qatar’s Ministry of Interior via the Metrash 2 app and notify the US Embassy by emailing [email protected]. The embassy also pointed out that if the scam originated through a particular website or on social media, residents should notify the administrators of that platform.
