Doha: The General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality has deployed over 2,500 workforces and 300 equipment and vehicles to clean prayer grounds and maintain hygiene at public places during Eid Al Fitr, said a top official.

“Special vehicles have been deployed to collect large-size domestic waste like used home furniture because some families change home appliances ahead of Eid Al Fitr,” said Director of General Cleanliness Department Muqbil Madhour Al Shammari.

Speaking to Qatar Radio, he said that the focus of the cleaning operation will be on a number of roads, public places like beaches, and public parks which attract a large number of people during the Eid festivity.

“A number of teams comprising 2,526 workforces have been assigned to ensure a smooth cleaning operation during the festivity,” said Al Shammari.

He said that the cleaning teams are also equipped with 96 sweeping machines and 242 vehicles for collecting waste. “As many as 20 vehicles are in operation for carrying recyclable materials. Dedicated teams are also ready to respond quickly to emergency-like situations,” said Al Shammari.

“The aforementioned workforces are stationed at different places across the municipalities liked Doha, Al Rayan, Al Dayeen, Al Khor, Al Wakra, Umm Salal, and Al Sheehaniya,” said Al Shammari.

He said that municipal officials and inspectors will be available at public places to educate people about provisions of hygiene law and issue tickets against violators.

“The intensified cleaning operation will be in those places which attract large number of visitors during Eid Al Fitr like public parks, beaches and markets among others,” said Al Shammari.

He said that the General Cleanliness Department is coordinating with all entities concerned for maintaining hygiene inside the Ministry of Municipality and outside, especially the municipalities.

The Department gained great experience in dealing with cleaning operations from previous events like FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Qatar National Day, big conferences, and occasions like Eids.

Al Shammari assured a smooth cleaning operation maintaining hygiene and ensuring the beauty of the city during the festivity.

“Now we reached the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. From the beginning of the spiritual month until now, the cleaning operation was focused on mosques and Ramadan tents following the programme of the Ministry of Municipality for segregation of waste by source.”

He said that the programme, which is part of Qatar National Vision 2030 to bring sustainability in the country, achieved great success.
