Many people on social media are arguing whether the picture above shows a teal and grey shoe, or a pink and white one.

After debating #thedress two years back, now a shoe has gone viral in social media with thousands guessing its colour.

An user posted the photo of the shoe in a facebook group asking members to guess the colour and it sparked off a deluge of comments and shares and later the post went on to twitter with thousands of tweets about the shoe in a matter of hours.

People are seeing different colours, with many saying they see grey and teal, while a substantial numbers said they saw pink and white. A few even tweeted that the colour shifted for them while looking at the photo.

The shoe in question is by Vans and the original is pink and white in colour.

The explanation given for the confusion is that photo was taken with a flash on and later darkened.

The shoe debate has died a little faster than #thedress debate of 2015.

Back in 2015, the web lost its mind over a “colour changing” dress – some people saw it as white and gold, while others saw it as blue and black. It was later revealed that the dress, which was designed by Roman Originals, was actually black and blue, though a trick of the light caused many to see it as white and gold.

“Basically, your visual system is constantly trying to colour-correct the images projected on the retina, to remove the colour contamination introduced by the spectral bias in the light source,” the Guardian UK quoted Bevil Conway, a neuroscientist at the National Eye Institute in the US.
