Doha Toastmasters Club celebrates 15 years

The first toastmasters club of Qatar, Doha Club, celebrated 15 years of service to Qatar at its 350th meeting held at Hotel Marriott. The function was attended by over 150 toastmasters and their families in Qatar. 

President, Dr M S Babu, in his opening address, stated that the celebration of 15 years of Toastmasters movement started by Doha club brings impetus to future growth of communication and leadership initiatives. 

The service rendered by toastmasters international across the globe in leadership building and national development, was highlighted by the Ambassador of India to Qatar, Sanjiv Arora, in his address. 

He expressed happiness that self-development programs are well nurtured and accepted in Qatar and released a commemorative souvenir marking the event. 

Dr Oudi Abouchakra, a leading Chiropractor and trainer from UAE was the key note speaker. He gave a speech exhorting the need to live life in the present moment and how passion and commitment should drive us in our day to day life. 

He also shared his experience in mentoring people, particularly young children, to transform into more confident and focussed individuals.

Steven Troop, CEO of Barwa Bank, Alex Ginette, District Governor of toastmasters who arrived specially from Bahrain, Mohammed Al-Yami, Doha Club member and Executive Director of Vodafone, and George Thomas, International Director of Toastmasters, also participated in the event. 

Doha Club has mentored several new clubs in the past fifteen years and as a result today Qatar has a vibrant toastmaster’s fraternity of 35 clubs and about 900 members.
