Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) recently held a workshop entitled “The Derivation and Formulation of Behavioral Objectives in Physical Education”, which was supervised by the Physical Education Department of the Educational Guidance Department. It targeted the female teachers of physical education for all academic stages of public schools.
“The Derivation and Formulation of Objectives” workshop comes within a series of training workshops for the Professional Development Program of the Physical Education Department Project to develop physical literacy for school students, and to improve the professional aspects for male and female PE teachers, under the supervision of the Director of the Educational Guidance Department, Maryam Noman Al Emadi.
The workshop was presented by Trainer Karim Qabbari - The Physical Education Coordinator at Ahmed bin Rashid Al Muraikhi Primary School for Boys -, in which he touched on the concept of behavioral objectives and its importance for the student and for the teacher.
Qabbari also discussed the principles and standards that must be followed when deriving behavioral objectives.
He explained that the behavioral objectives are the sentence that represents what the teacher will achieve during the lesson, and is based on the curriculum, the interim plan, and on the experiences gained by the students to be refined and developed.
Qabbari stressed the importance of having a clear vision of what the student should achieve at the end of each stage, and this vision should be reflected through objectives which are achieved in a phased manner to enable the student to acquire skills, experience and knowledge that contribute to building his personality inside and outside of the school.
A set of learning outcomes for some academic stages and different axes was displayed for the female teachers to apply practical applications via deriving and discussing objectives. The discussion was enriched by Salman Al-Hazmi - Consultant of Direction of the Physical Education - by presenting examples that help female teachers to understand more clearly what the objectives are and how they are derived.
