Doha: The first round of the Losail MX Championship will take place tomorrow at the new Losail Motocross Track.
The Championship, organised by Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), will consist of five rounds, with two different motorbike categories competing for the top prize in the championship.
Motorbikes of 2-stroke and 4-stroke category will compete in the event, informed the organisers.
Riders will be seen in action in MX1 category which is open for 2-stroke motorbikes of 175CC to 250CC and from 290cc to 450cc for 4-stroke motorbikes.
In MX2 category, motorbikes ranging from 100cc to 125cc of 2-stroke and 175cc to 250cc of 4-stroke will compete for top honours.
The new Losail Motocross Track is built just next to the Losail International Circuit and the access to the MX track is from behind the main grandstand, informed the QMMF officials.
The track activity will start today at 10:30am with free practice and two races will follow, Race 1 at 1:00pm and Race 2 at 3:00pm. In all the sessions, both categories will compete at the same time.
The QMMF meanwhile is gearing up to host yet another international event.
Two weeks from now, the new Losail Motocross Track will host the FIM MX1/MX2 Motocross World Championship. The Qatar round will be the opening round of the 2013 season and will be held on the March 1 and 2.
The FIM MX1/MX2 Motocross World Championship Qatar round has generated a lot of expectations among the motor sports fans. It will be for the first time the MXGP will be held in the Middle East but also the first-ever Grand Prix to be staged at night under floodlights.
Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah, QMMF President stated that he is very happy to bring the FIM MX1/MX2 Motocross World Championship to Qatar and is looking forward to building and creating a new fan base for Motocross in Qatar.
