DOHA: Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, President of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF), made a special presentation to the Qatar Team’s 2012 UIM F1 H20 World Champion Alex Carella, chief mechanic and engine builder Brendan Power and the team’s talented second driver Shaun Torrente at a gala dinner at the Doha Sheraton on Saturday night.
The presentation was held in conjunction with the awards’ ceremony for the H1 Unlimited 2012 Championship and the handing of the trophy to the winner of the 2012 Oryx Cup UIM World Championship, which reached its conclusion in Doha Bay on Saturday.
Khalid bin Arhama Al Kuwari, head of formula racing at the QMSF, also took the opportunity to confirm his team line-up for the 2013 UIM F1 H20 Championship, which is provisionally set to begin in April.
“We will keep to the same successful team in 2013,” enthused Al Kuwari.
“Alex and Shaun will be our drivers in Formula One, Brendan Power will be working in his usual meticulous way with the boats and the engines and Khalid Abdullah Al Kuwari will represent the team in Formula 4 (F-4S).”
Al Kuwari also confirmed that he is looking to add a second driver to the Qatar Team line-up for the 2013 UIM F-4S Championship for the Eurofin Trophy and that he has received several enquiries from drivers wanting to join the Qatar Team to potentially run a third boat in F1 during the course of the season.
