Doha: Mohammed Abdulhadi S Al Hajri’s Maysara lived up to her consistent form to win the Lehwaila Cup at the Qatar Racing And Equestrian Club’s (QREC) Al Rayyan Racecourse yesterday.

The five-year-old mare, trained by Hamad Al Jehani, showed her class as she stormed from behind to overtake the leaders and won the Local Thoroughbred Handicap over 1200m contest, by an impressive five lengths margin. Jockey Pierre Charles Boudot guided her to a brilliant win, completing a quick-fire double for both the trainer and jockey.

The mare recently finished second in the Local Thoroughbred Filly and Mare Desert Rose Cup (class 2) on February 14.

Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya, QREC Chairman and President of Asian Equestrian Federation crowned the winners.

Jockey Boudot and trainer Al Jehani were earlier in the winners’ enclouse when they guided Saif Rashid Saif Al  Khayarin’s Local Law to victory in the 1900m contest for the Thoroughbred Handicap (75-100) for four-year-old+. The seven-year-old bay gelding won the race ahead of Eng. Hassan Ali AM Alabdulmalik’s Cei Connah by a margin of three lengths.

Jockey Abdulla Rashid Al Hajri also completed a double on the card when he guided Lekhreib Stud’s Jabal Tariq to victory in the 1900m contest for the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 4-6-year-olds. Abdulla Dhabit Al Dosari-trained five-year-old gelding won the race with one and a half lengths margin over Nasser Saeed MS Al Eida-owned and Jassim Ghazali-trained Al Ryan Park. In the card opener, Al Hajri guided Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri’s Delirious Dream to win in the Thoroughbred Handicap (45-65) for three-year-old+ in the 1200m race.
