Action during the opening day of the inaugural ‘Hathab’ showjumping series which kicked off at the Al Shaqab Arena yesterday.
Jaber Rashid Al Amri and Mohammed Salem Al Marri captured the top honours on the opening day of the inaugural ‘Hathab’ showjumping series which kicked off at the Al Shaqab Arena yesterday.
Al Amri had a flawless ride on his favourite nine-year-old stallion Canavaro de Muze (E.T.) and clocked 60.02 seconds to bag the top prize of QR3,750 along with the gold medal in the Open Class - One round against the clock, Art. 238.2.1, 115/125 cm event.
Mohammed Said Haidan, who rode Corrado’s Coriana, was a fraction of a second slower than Al Amri and had to be satisfied with the second place while Jazly, ridden by Hamad Nasser Al Qadi, clocked the third fastest time, as top six horses made no mistakes while completing the round against the clock.
Haidan and Al Qadi walked away with prize money worth QR3,000 and QR2,250 respectively.
In the ‘Small Tour’ One round against the clock, Art. 238.2.1, 100/115 cm event which saw young riders aged 14 to 18 competing, Al Marri, was almost two seconds faster than his closest compatriot Mohammed Khalifa Al Bake who secured the silver medal.
Al Marri, astride Gin Tonic Van De Kranenburg, completed the round in 49.90 seconds to bag the prize cheque for QR2,500 at the state of the art Al Shaqab arena yesterday, while Al Baker guided Looping to complete the round in 51.70 seconds.
Al Baker won QR2,000 in prize money while Mohammed Taleb Al Saaq who guided Diamond Delemma over the obstacles, won the bronze medal and a cheque worth QR1,500.
Today’s events at the QR1m ‘Hathab’ showjumping series will include the Future riders class Optimum Time 70/85cm, Future riders class Optimum Time 85/100cm, Medium Tour Table A, Special two phases 120/130cm as well as the Big Tour Table A, One round against the clock 130/140cm event.
The 12-leg series is organized by Al Shaqab and Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and is the result of extensive research of showjumping events held in Qatar the last few years.
