Manila: Qatar missed out on semi-final spot after losing 52-79 to South Korea in the quarter-finals of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship at the MOA Arena in Philippines, yesterday.
South Korea who were dominant from the first whistle until the last, will now face the hosts Philippines in the semi-finals today. Qatar will play Kazakhstan, who lost 55-88 against the hosts yesterday, in the classification round.
Former NBA player Jarvis Hayes and Erfan Ali Saeed each scored 10 points each for Qatar. Team-mate Daoud Mosa Daoud came off the bench to score nine points in the quarter-final.
Qatar had begun the tournament with three straight wins, defeating Japan in their opener, before beating Hong Kong and Jordan.
However, their unbeaten run came to an end against Philippines on August 6. The gulf champions bounced back from their defeat with victory over Chinese Taipei.
The 2013 FIBA Asia Championship is the intercontinental championship for basketball organised by FIBA Asia that serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
