Art and sports seems to rule the weekend planner this week. With hopes that the climate remain a pleasant one, there are lots of reasons for you to head out this Friday. 

Shrek The Musical
Based on the DreamWorks blockbuster which has enchanted millions of audiences of all ages form across the world, Shrek The Musical is now set to entertain families in Qatar with its lavish costumes and great music.

California Tortilla Reverse Walk 
According to a popular belief, 100 steps backward is equivalent to 1000 step forward. So this weekend burn those calories and head for a reverse walk at Aspire. For the first time in Qatar, California Tortilla Reverse Walk will be held for the benefit of Qatar Diabetes Association.

Focus: Works from Mathaf Collection, vol. 2

The exhibition features an exhibition of conceptual Emirati artist Hassan Sharif, titled: “Hassan Sharif: Objects and Files”. The exhibition includes a selection of artist archives and object installations from between 1981-1987, during which time Sharif established new, self-imposed systems of repetition, duration and chance in the execution of his work. 
Sharif’s works is showcased alongside four significant and influential artists from across the Arab world, including Faraj Daham (Qatar), Saloua Raouda Choucair (Lebanon), Inji Efflatoun (Egypt) and Farid Belkahia (Morocco).
Each of the five galleries on the ground floor exhibition is dedicated to a pioneering solo artist, touching upon specific themes in their practice and allowing visitors to experience their work through various curatorial interpretations of historical contexts, materials and aesthetics.

Katara QatArt Handmade Market

In mood to shop for handicrafts, then head to Katara as QatART will exhibit their handmade artifacts at Katara Art studios courtyard (Building 19). Participants will present their creativity through workshops held at the market. There will be a wide variety of handcrafts from Qatar-based makers of art, craft and design.

Arab-Ottoman Classical Music

As part of it’s exchanging of experiences and musical programmes, Qatar Music Academy's Arab Music Department will hold its annual concert at Katara on March 12, 2016.

Transparent Look Exhibition
Cultural Village Foundation-Katar is organising the first personal exhibition for Qatari artist Maryam Al Sulaiti under the theme Transparent Look, daily from 12pm to 12am.

Symbols of Latin America and the Caribbean  

Katara Art Studio will host documentary photographs representing 11 Latin American countries in five categories namely the country capital, national animal, national plant or flower, national dish and the historical monument.

Aspire Tennis Cup - Men

You think you are a pro in Tennis, then head straight to Aspire Zone for a match with the young talents in Qatar. Aspire Zone is organising the first edition of Aspire Tennis Cup from 4pm to 8pm. The tournament is open for men - 18 years and above and know how to play the game. Tournament will be held over the course of two weekends (11-12 and 18-19 March).

China Art Expo

A major exhibition 'Contemporary Art from China' will open to the public at Qatar Museums Gallery Al Riwaq on monday, March 14. The exhibition will feature 15 contemporary Chinese artists with works including paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and interactive video game design.
