Doha, Qatar: The first phase of the Qatari Teachers Fellowship Programme (Khebrat) has been launched and will continue until December 2023.
This phase involves sending 15 teachers and coordinators of mathematics, science, and English language subjects in the public schools to the Republic of Finland.
The aim is to expose them to outstanding teaching environments to help build and enhance their teaching capabilities.
The working programme received by the Qatari teachers during their stay in Finland for two weeks included introductory meetings with experts from the schools they joined in Finland.
They also met their Finnish teacher colleagues, who will share their learning journey during the exchange period.
Guided sessions were held for the teachers with mentors, and they also attended several subject-specific classes in their specialisations. The programme also included introductory sessions for teachers on learning theories in Finland, skills teaching strategies, and assessment methods.
To ensure the transfer of knowledge and experience, each teacher regularly held a remote meeting with the administration of his school in Qatar in the presence of the department’s teachers and subject mentors to share with them the progress of his educational journey in Finland.
The “Khebrat” programme, launched at the beginning of the current academic year 2023-2024, is integrated with other initiatives and programmes established by the Ministry.
Among these initiatives are the “Tomouh” programme, concerned with attracting Qataris to the teaching profession in partnership with the College of Education at Qatar University, and the “Tamheen” programme, which is concerned with attracting university graduates who do not have an educational qualification for the teaching profession after training them and providing them with the necessary professional competencies.
The outcomes of these programmes have represented significant contributions to building national capacities in the teaching profession.
