Doha: Ministry of Municipality and Environment has removed over 13,000 abandoned vehicles and moved them to its three tow yards.

Assistant Director of Mechanical Equipment Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Marzouq Mubarak Al-Masifri announced the removal of 13 thousand abandoned vehicles in 2019, which have been moved to three sites allocated by it to reserve impounded vehicles.

He said this during the program "Watani Al-Habib" on Qatar Radio adding that the ministry has provided 3 units to impounded vehicles in Al Mshaf, Abu Hamour and Umm Salal, noting that these sites cover all areas of the country.

Regarding to the procedure followed by the committee, Al-Masaifri stated that once the vehicles are removed from different areas in the country, they are taken to collecting the tow yards, after which they are put up for sale in a bid through the Tenders Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. "The second measure within the procedure is the conclusion of contracts with a number of specialized companies to withdraw vehicles for safe disposal."

He warned that the abandoned vehicles are disposed only after the expiry of the six months set by the law, noting that the owner of the vehicle can retrieve it through a review of the municipality, in which the vehicle was found in order to determine the tow yard unit and payment of fines to receive the vehicle.
