Ministry of Sports and Youth’s new strategy to enhance sports’ role in public health

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Sports and Youth (MSY) has announced the launch of its new strategy, reflecting its future vision and aligning with the aspirations of Qatari youth. The initiative carries the slogan “Quality Life and Future-Ready Youth.”

In a statement, the ministry highlighted that the strategy aims to enhance the role of sports in improving public health and reducing disease risks.  It focuses on nurturing talents across priority sports, improving athlete performance, supporting the private sector in organising sports events, and developing Qatari professionals in sports and youth fields. Additionally, the strategy seeks to achieve operational efficiency in sports facilities.

The new strategy aspires to create an integrated sports environment that contributes to building a healthy and active society while expanding the base of Qatari talent.

Minister of Sports and Youth H E Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani emphasised that the launch of the “Sports and Youth Excellence Strategy” marks a pivotal step towards sustainable development in this vital sector.

He stated that in Qatar, sports and youth are fundamental pillars in building a vibrant and innovative society, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to developing strategies that align with the ambitions of youth and reinforce Qatar’s position as a global destination for sports.

In his speech during the strategy’s launch, the Minister added that this strategy reflects the State’s vision of empowering youth and investing in their capabilities while enhancing sports as a means of achieving development and social cohesion. He expressed his hope of achieving the ambitious goals of “Quality Life and Future-Ready Youth” in collaboration with all partners in the sports sector. MSY Undersecretary Eng. Yasser bin Abdullah Al Jamal described the new strategy as a roadmap for advancing this vital sector and its role in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. He urged all those involved in its implementation to exert their utmost effort to ensure its goals are met, expressing confidence that the strategy will achieve significant milestones in the journey of excellence in the sports and youth sectors, strengthen Qatar’s position globally, and meet stakeholders’ aspirations.

MSY’s Director of the Planning, Quality, and Innovation Department Maha Al Rumaihi stated that the strategy is the result of extensive collective efforts. She assured that the ministry is keen to ensure the strategy is comprehensive, sustainable, and based on global best practices, targeting the aspirations of Qatar’s youth and sports community.

The sports and youth sector in Qatar plays a central role in the country’s human, social, and economic development, acting as a cornerstone for building a vibrant and thriving society. To amplify the launch, the Ministry of Sports and Youth utilized advertising screens across various prominent locations in the country, including Lusail, Msheireb, Aspire Park, and Katara, among others.
