Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs announced an extension of the online registration for the annual school competition for Qur'an memorization to Tuesday, March 11. The event is organized by the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance.
In a statement, Awqaf highlighted that this move came in response to the high turnout and the increase in applications received from the public, offering further opportunity for a significant number of male and female students from both public and private sectors to register their names.
Assistant Director of the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, highlighted that the ministry had introduced technological adjustments since the previous edition which included updating the online registration mechanism, setting a modern design for the contest's official website and offering the student parents the chance to register their students' names online.
Financial rewards have been devoted to all successful students from both genders with the aim of encouraging them to memorize the holy Qur'an and internalize its precepts and values, he said.
He highlighted that the testing phase for the registered students will start on April 15, calling on parents to promptly register their sons and daughters before the deadline and encourage them to properly be ready to compete in this contest.
Overall, the ministry has determined several conditions for participation, foremost of which is that applicants must be registered in public or private schools and must correctly and fully write their personal data, in addition to selecting one of the first and second levels separately for subscription.
The ministry stressed that it is imperative for students to stick with the approved curriculum they have chosen during registration and that they should not have succeeded in any branch of the same level or higher in previous years.
It clarified that students are not entitled to subscribe to the second level unless they have already memorized seven parts or more, whether from the first sections of the holy Qur'an or the last ones, adding that those who have subscribed to memorizing the entire holy Qur'an are not entitled to subscribe again unless two years have passed.
In addition, the ministry called on all students and parents to seize this opportunity and register in the competition which represents a superb platform to memorize the holy Qur'an and spread its culture among the young generation. It highlighted that memorizing the holy Qur'an plays a crucial role in instilling Islamic precepts in students' hearts to strengthen their relationship with the holy Qur'an.
Having debuted in the 1960-1961 academic year, the competition is one of the oldest in the State of Qatar.
