Doha, Qatar: The winners of the second Arabic Book Award were honoured during a ceremony held in Doha yesterday.

The event was attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, and several senior officials and Their Excellencies the ambassadors accredited to the country.

Dr. Hassan Al Naama, Secretary-General of the Arab Book Award, crowned the winners. The Arabic Book Award, launched by Qatar in March 2024, aims to honour researchers, publishing houses, and institutions contributing to the Arabic book industry.

In his speech on the occasion, Dr. Hassan Al Naama, Secretary-General of the Arab Book Award, expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to the Father Ami H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for his patronage of the award, praising His Highness’s continuous support for culture and thought, and stressing that this award is not merely an honor for authors, but rather an embodiment of the nation’s keeping pace with the march of human thought, and an inspiration from its rich Arab heritage.

He also stressed that the Arab heritage was and still is a fundamental source of human knowledge, stressing the importance of the role of writers and thinkers in enhancing cultural awareness and consolidating intellectual values.

He said, “Last year, we celebrated the launch of this award, which was distinguished from others in that it is not merely an honour for writers, but rather an expression of our nation’s keeping pace with the march of human thought, and an inspiration from our ancient Arab heritage that has provided humanity with a wealth of knowledge that we are proud of throughout the ages.”

For his part, Abdulrahman Al Marri, the media spokesman for the Arab Book Award, said in a statement to QNA that this edition comes as a continuation of the path that the award began in its first edition, where a group of intellectual figures and scholars were honoured who enriched the Arab library with solid and profound scientific works.
