The Qatar Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (India) held technical seminar on two topics at the Ashoka Hall of The Indian Cultural Center for its engineers on October 7. Over 90 Engineers attended the Seminar.
Subrato Mukherjee and Mohammed Obaidullah spoke on Building Information Modelling (BIM). Their presentation aimed at providing an outline of BIM, its advantages, limitations and applications in the context of a recently completed Stadium project. Building Information Modelling is a relatively new technology in an industry typically slow to adopt change.
However, many early adopters including clients and practitioners have had rewarding experiences. They are confident that BIM will grow to play an even more crucial role in many engineering building documentation. Many governments, large corporate and institutions including the Government of Qatar has made it mandatory for use of BIM in large projects.

QCS 2014 released as latest revision includes new specification for the wind, seismic, building lifespan & other Topics. They elaborated on Part 1 – General Introduction to QCS 2014 and Major Comparative Topics Changes with respect to QCS 2010 AND Part 2 - The wind speed specified in QCS 2014 is made with reference to three major international code of practice (ASCE, BS-EN, and BS). New specification included in the QCS 2014 for first time is Seismic specification, though Qatar lies in low risk tectonic plate, minimum zone 1 seismicity is required to be considered in building design and construction. Life span of the building is also a new addition to QCS 2014. The presentation compared QCS 2014 with its immediate earlier version 2010 and highlighted the changes adopted in later.
