‘Dominican Week’ to boost commercial, cultural ties with Qatar

In an initiative to enhance cultural and trade ties between Qatar and Dominican Republic, a ‘Dominican Week’ will be held in Doha.   

From November 15 to 19 the week will also focus on promoting the Dominican Republic as a destination for investment, trade, tourism and culture, said Ambassador of Dominican Republic to Qatar, H E Georges Bahsa Hazim, during an event held at the Alwadi Doha – MGallery Hotel Collection.

“The relations between the two countries are as fruitful as possible, we continue exploring points of cooperation and strengthening commercial ties. Recently we have set a primary mission of our embassy to promote more great work that has been done in both sides to expand our bilateral exchange,” said Hazim. 

“We have countless unexploited opportunities of investment that the Qataris are already finding interesting, and due to the increased interest, we have assembled a whole week of promotion for investment and cultural expression - Dominican Week in Qatar,” he added. 

A delegation of high ranking officials and representatives of private sector are also scheduled to participate in the Dominican Week in Qatar. 

“We have planned several events including expert panels on how to do business in the Dominican Republic, cultural presentations, Dominican art exhibition of a renowned Dominican painter and a Dominican pop up restaurant,” said Hazim. 

A two Michelin-star celebrity chef Maria Marte will be serving her unique fusion cuisine to Alwadi Doha - MGallery Hotel Collection for three nights. The high-end pop-up venue will feature a specially curated nine-course menu of Dominican culinary delicacies.

Dominican Republic, known for its warm people, blue ocean waters, white sand beaches and rich culture is also expecting to attract more visitors from Qatar and the region. Ambassador of Dominican Republic to Qatar Hazim anticipates that direct flight from Qatar to the Dominican Republic would begin next year as result of ongoing discussions. 

“We are always welcoming tourists to our beautiful tropical country and the opening of a direct flight from Qatar to the Dominican Republic will come to increase the number of visitors we will receive from Qatar and the region,” said Hazim.

Bilateral trade between Qatar and Dominic Republic is still growing and both countries are working to create the right platform for the two countries expand the trade offer. At the moment the main imports from the Dominican Republic have been electrical products, instruments, and apparatus used in medical sciences.

“The sectors with greater potential and attractiveness for Qatar is energy, medical products, electronics, textiles, agribusiness especially fruits that are increasing their presence and acceptance in Qatar and many more,” said Hazim.
