Assy wins Qatar Gold Sword race

Assy, ridden by P Liemaire, is about to go past the winning post in the Qatar Gold Sword Race at Qatar Racing Equestrian and Club in Doha yesterday. Assy won the feature race ahead of Khabbab and Fouladh.

DOHA: Assy, ridden P Lemaire yesterday won the Qatar Gold Sword title at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC). 
Trained by Julian Smart, Assy pipped Khabbab to the top spot in the 2200m feature race at QREC.
Khabbab had Marvin Suerland in the saddle.
Trained by A de Mieulle, Fouladh finished in third spot. 
Watched by a capacity crowd at QREC, the owner of Assy walked off with the top prize of QR855,000. 
The second prize was worth QR330,000 while Fouladh helped his owner collect QR165,000.
Also yesterday, Dubday clinched the Qatar Gold Trophy, ahead of Very Nice Name and Lion D’Anvers. 
Dubday, trained by Jassim Ghazali, won the 2200m race in a time of 2 minutes 13:39 seconds. 
Jockey Harry Bentley timed his final dash in sublime fashion to guide Dubday to win ahead of A de Mieulle-trained Very Nice Name and Ghazali-trained Lion D’Anvers.
Earlier, Ghazali-trained horses dominated the Qatar Silver Sword race. Roman Legend, ridden by Gerald Avranche, cantered to win the top prize ahead of Peter Maz which had Z Mohsen in the saddle. City Zen, also trained by Ghazali finished in third spot with jockey Stephan Ladjadj in the saddle.
