Doha, Qatar: Bottom-placed Al Khor yesterday secured a convincing 74–55 win over Qatar Club in a crucial Qatar Basketball Federation Men’s League game at the Al Gharafa Sports Club court.
Al Khor, propelled by a strong show by Youssef A Y Yagoub who made 19 points, five rebounds and same number of assists, were off to a dream start, overcoming Qatar Club with a clear 22-12 margin at the end of the first quarter.
Deng Makauc Riak, , who eventually piled up 29 points, led the scoring as Al Khor added 17 more points against their opponents’12 in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 39-24.
The Al Khor assault continued in the third quarter, with Qatar Club struggling to keep up with the pace.
Al Khor managed to add 21 more points, while Qatar SC scored 11 as the scores read 60-35 at the end of the third quarter.
However, Qatar Club regrouped in the final quarter, with Serbian Dejan Janjic, Kolako Amadou Konate and Georgios Mykonaitis attempting to play rescue acts.
Qatar Club scored 20 points in the last quarter, while Al Khor could only manage to add 14, but their efforts could do little to the outcome of the game.
Riak, apart from playing the role of top scorer for Al Khor, made nine rebounds and six assists. Christos Bratsiakos scored 12 points, two rebounds and assisted in two baskets, while Saoud Haji added 10 points.
He also made six rebounds and five assists.
For Qatar Club, Janjic scored 28 points while making seven rebounds and an assist, while Konate scored 11 points and made eight rebounds.
Mykonaitis scored seven and made seven rebounds.
Despite the win, Al Khor remained at the bottom of the table with 16 points from two wins, while Qatar Club remained at 18 points.
