Another iconic roundabout in Qatar will turn to an intersection in the first quarter of 2018. The Shell roundabout in Al Wakrah will be converted into an intersection with traffic lights by Ashghal to ease the traffic flow on the Wakrah road.
A source told Al Sharq Daily newspaper that the plan is to expand the lanes of the roads leading to the new intersection. The work will take about 4 months and will be done in several stages and during this time they will prepare alternative routes for the public. This project comes within the expansion and development project of Al Wakrah roads.
The new intersection will be completed after the completion of the four lanes in each direction and three paths in each direction to turn left.
The project includes implementation of gardening works, as well as pedestrian corridors, path for cyclists and car parking.
The construction of the Shell intersection is an important step in the development of Al Wakrah main road, especially for those coming from Doha and heading to Al Wakrah and Sealine.
The QR250 million project will be done by local contracting companies, which has a good track record of delivering quality projects on time, the report said.
In the future, there are plans to turn the Abdul Ghani roundabout and Q-tel roundabout into intersections with light signals.
Ashghal continues the plan to turn all roundabouts to light signals in order to enhance the flow of traffic and reduce congestion in vital areas and ensure the flow of traffic at major intersections.
