Doha Municipality carried out an awareness inspection campaign for food outlets operating at Katara and The Pearl, and food kiosks set up at Corniche for the Eid Festival.
This is part of intensified food outlets inspection campaign launched by the Municipality during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.
Director of Municipal Control Department at Doha Municipality, Salem Hamoud Al Shafi, and a number of inspectors and nutritionists from the Control Department participated in the campaign. The campaign, which will run until end of Eid holidays, aims to develop an integrated plan to train and educate all workers in food establishments on food safety methods, such as preserving and displaying foodstuffs, and the correct methods for self-hygiene during work.
This will also help in educating consumers and school and university students on the safe and correct ways to shop and choose the right foodstuffs.
The Health Control Department also inspected sweets and nuts shops and restaurants to ensure that healthy and sound methods are followed in the preparation and processing of foodstuffs and that all workers adhere to health requirements.
The department’s complaints team also received and responded to a number of complaints, took samples of a number of foodstuffs and sent them to the central laboratory to ensure their fitness for human consumption.
Some awareness tips were also given to follow healthy and sound rules while handling food.
The campaign also resulted in the seizure of expired food items in one of the restaurants and the issuance of a seizure report in violation of Law No. 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control.
