DOHA: Top motor sport officials yesterday pledged to reshape the sport in the Middle East by increasing the number of events held in the region and making the activities affordable.
This was the message announced at the Arab Council for Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTAC) workshop held on day two of the MENA and ASN assembly being hosted by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) at the Radisson Blu hotel in Doha.
FIA President Jean Todt and Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA Vice President joined Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, President, QMMF, to discuss the future and mobility of motor sport in the Arab world.
The ACTAC is a sub-region of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Region I and its goal is to unite the Arabic speaking FIA clubs of the region to shape the future of motoring throughout the Arab world.
The country members of the ACTAC are Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Al Attiyah, who is also the FIA Cross Country Commission President, said: “It was another fruitful day of discussions as we managed to find some dynamic solutions for the promotion of motor sport in the region.”
He added: “The QMMF is pleased to host yet another gathering of expert minds in the field of motor sport. We are confident that with the guidance of Mr Jean Todt, we can get things done the right way.” THE PENINSULA
