Qatar in the last few days has seen an increase in the number of confirmed cases which the doctors confirm is because the number of people being tested has significantly increased.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced yesterday 250 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and said that 16 more people had recovered from the disease in the country.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Co-Chair of the National Pandemic Preparedness Committee and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that Qatar has seen an increase in the number of confirmed cases within few days because the number of people being tested has significantly increased.
“The capacity of central laboratory has increased from 700 to 1000 tests per day to 3,500 tests per day within last 24 hours,” Dr. Al Khal told Qatar TV yesterday. He added that this helped in detecting more cases.
He said there were more infected cases among travellers coming from Europe and America. "Therefore, I call upon all those quarantined in hotels to be cautious. They must adhere to health guidelines.” MoPH conducted 3,538 laboratory tests yesterday.
This has brought the total number of COVID-19 tests to date, to 31,951. By yesterday, a total of 109 people had recovered from COVID-19 in Qatar. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Qatar now stands at 1,325. A total of 1,213 active cases are under treatment.
