Doha, Qatar: Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities has unveiled the first initiative of Shafallah as the bridge of nations and fabric of art.
The initiative is organised in collaboration with the Bridging Nations Foundation and the French Academic Society of Arts, Sciences and Literature, in coordination with the Embassy of the French Republic to the State of Qatar.
In a statement on Thursday, the center highlighted that the technical workshops of this initiative are set to launch during the period February 16-20, at Qatar Museums.
Executive Director of the Shafallah Center Maryam Saif Al Suwaidi stated that the fabric of art exhibition intends to hold three-day workshops on art paintings that would be produced by 17 teams, with each team introducing a young disabled individual, alongside a professional artist to compete in the first three places.
The topics of these paintings address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the expo highlighting the importance of socialization in improving the life of persons with disabilities and its connection to social development, in addition to including them in the community to engage in many activities, such as art, Al Suwaidi noted.
Al Suwaidi added that the five-day activities of the initiative commence with the opening ceremony, followed by a three-day intensive work during which participants cooperate to showcase an art painting that reflects their shared vision.
She indicated that the initiative is not an art event, but rather an invitation to shore up cultural bonds and reinforce cooperation through arts to have a profound role in empowering disabled individuals.
In addition, the initiative features 17 disabled artists, including 11 from Al Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, 4 from Best Buddies Qatar, and 2 from Al-Noor Center for the Blind, thus representing a wide diversity of abilities and talents, in collaboration with Qatar-based professional artists, including those from Matafi Artists' Residence alongside other artists statewide.
