Paris: The State of Qatar participated in the Ministerial Conference on Syria, held Thursday in Paris.
Representing the State of Qatar at the conference was Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
In his speech before the Conference, His Excellency expressed his gratitude to the French Republic for hosting this important meeting, stating that this Conference comes at a time when crucial developments in Syria are being witnessed, marked by optimism for the future, reconstruction, and stability after years of destruction, killing, and displacement.
His Excellency emphasized that the prospects for the future hinge on this pivotal phase to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for progress and prosperity, stressing the need for all international partners to work together responsibly to support the Syrian people in attaining their legitimate goals. His Excellency also pointed out that experience has shown that Syria's stability and unity are crucial not only for the Arab region but beyond.
His Excellency reaffirmed the importance of preserving Syria's unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, condemning all violations it is subjected to, especially in the current context. His Excellency reiterated support for all relevant international resolutions condemning the Israeli occupation of Syrian territories and called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities in curbing the unjustified and illegal escalation that undermines efforts to support Syria's unity and independence.
Furthermore, His Excellency reaffirmed Qatar's unwavering support for the Syrian people and their choices, stressing that the only path forward lies in an inclusive political process that preserves Syria's social fabric, builds its national institutions with efficiency and national interest in mind, and unifies its forces under civilian leadership to safeguard the country's territorial integrity.
His Excellency welcomed steps aimed at restructuring the Syrian state and enhancing consensus and unity among all Syrian parties, as well as the announcement of the Preparatory Committee for the National Conference, adding that the State of Qatar looks forward to the next steps in this regard, working towards a comprehensive national path that defines the priorities of the phase and paves the way for a peaceful transition of power through a political process agreed upon by Syrians.
HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also underscored the importance of implementing transitional justice and holding accountable those responsible for human rights violations and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people.
His Excellency reiterated the need for intensified international efforts to support the Syrian people through humanitarian aid and initiatives aimed at addressing the devastation caused by the crisis over the years, while also removing obstacles that hinder international donors from providing the necessary support.
