DOHA: FIA President Jean Todt, Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA Vice President, and a host of other top officials yesterday joined Qatar’s Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, QMMF President and FIA Cross Country Commission President, to discuss the future of motor sport in wide-ranging discussions.
Hosted by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), the MENA and ASN’s assembly at the Radisson Blu hotel has attracted officials from 22 countries to discuss the future of the sport in these regions.
The participating countries include Algeria, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen.
One of the goals of this assembly is to increase the number of competitors in the region and the number of motor sport events.
“In order to achieve this, we are planning to go aggressive on promotion and development of the sport at national levels, a QMMF statement said yesterday.
Training of officials will also be given prominence, the statement added.
QMMF President Al Attiyah said: “We are very happy to have this high profile gathering of top officials. This is the first time that we are hosting a MENA and ASN assembly in Doha. The increase in the number of participating officials indicates the intensity in our discussions.”
He added: “This gathering will help us to promote and increase the number of motor sport events and activities in the region.”
