PISQ teams secure second position in school debate league

Doha: Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) Preparatory & Secondary Debate Teams of Boys & Girls have qualified for the National Debating Championship 2022. The teams have secured overall 2nd position in the Boys Preparatory Schools Debate League 2021-2022.

Qatar Secondary and Preparatory Schools Debate League – Nationals for Boys and Girls were held parallel recently at Debakey High School for Boys and Amna Binte Wahab Preparatory School for Girls. 

The event featured top 16 teams in the secondary and preparatory schools’ Open category and top 8 teams each in the preparatory & secondary schools EFL category for both boys and girls tournaments.

Two PISQ boys teams & two PISQ girls teams qualified for the National Debating Championship 2022. PISQ Boys contestants were Abdullah Toheed, Muhammad Hassan Nisar, Huzaifah Ahmed, Saif Raza, Malik Ahrar, Abdullah Hussein, Abdullah Umer, Abdulhadi, Abdullah Aman, Muhammad Umer, Abdulrafeh, Muhammad Saim, Abdullah Ahsan Rasheed, Abdullah Ahsan Bashir, Abdullah Ijaz, Ali Hassan, Ali Hussein, Hassan Elahi, Muhammad Rafeh, Umer Aman, Talha and Wali Sarfraz. PISQ Girls participants were Syeda Hareem Zehra, Syeda Mehmooda Shah, Isbah Fatima, Syeda Izma, Syeda Zahra, Maha Naeem, Huda Naseer, Momina Muazzam, Salwa Nooram Khan, Elsa Haider, Nazan Ali, Mariyam Umer, Ayesha Umer,Namarig and Aliya Abdullah. 

The main objective of the competition was to give adequate exposure to the students to involve themselves in public speaking and make them more confident and also to improve their critical thinking with sound perceptive power. 

Participants pushed their brain cells to think upon the themes encompassing education, social media influence, international issues, Law and Order, Space exploration program, etc. 

The teams were well prepared and were equipped with statistics and data which made their arguments more emphatic. Girls’ teams were defeated in the Quarter Finals whereas Boys’ teams were defeated in the Octo finals. It seems pertinent to mention that all PISQ girls & boys teams took part in all the tournaments of the QPSDL & QSDL held this year. Wins and speaker points for the top two teams from each school were added to compile an overall league ranking.  The school with the highest number of wins and speaker points after the two tournaments were awarded the ‘QSDL and QPSDL League positions’. 

PISQ Secondary & preparatory girls and preparatory boys won 9/12 league debate rounds each. PISQ Preparatory boys teams were awarded as runner-up school in the league from the end of boys whereas PISQ (Preparatory Girls) ended in the fourth position.

The school coach expressed her satisfaction that PISQ teams of debaters could contend with the best in Doha or anywhere else. Principal of Pakistan International School Nargis Raza Otho felicitated and appreciated the PISQ debaters and their coach.
