Doha: The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Sulaiti issued the following statement:
At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet valued the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(COP26) held in Glasgow, Scotland. This is in the context of His Highness' interest in the issue of climate change and the need to rush and mobilize international efforts to adapt to it, mitigate its effects, and address it.
The Cabinet commended the intensive meetings held by HH the Amir with a number of Their Highnesses and Excellencies heads of brotherly and friendly countries, and heads of delegations participating in the conference.
The Cabinet affirmed that the launch of the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, coincided with the convening of COP26, has embodied the State of Qatar's interest in environmental and climate change issues and that the creation of the Ministry of Environment and Change Climate reflects the state's keenness to support international efforts and adopt joint action to protect people from the harmful effects of climate change.
The Cabinet also listened to the explanation given by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to limit the COVID-19 spread, where the Cabinet affirmed the continuation of work with the precautionary measures that have been taken to combat the pandemic.
Afterward, the Cabinet considered the topics listed on its agenda as follows:
First - Approval of the accession of the State of Qatar to the membership of the Kimberley Process (KP) for the issuance of rough diamonds certificates, and the following two projects:
1- A draft decree approving the accession of the State of Qatar to the Kimberley Process regarding the issuance of rough diamond certificates.
2- A draft law on controlling the import, export, and transit of rough diamonds.
Second - Approval of a draft decision of the Minister of Transport regarding the conditions and controls for granting a marine driving license and cases of its withdrawal.
Third - Take the necessary measures to ratify an agreement between the State of Qatar and the United Nations on hosting the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5).
Fourth - Approval of the draft executive program of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of standardization between the Qatar General Authority for Standardization (QS) in the State of Qatar and the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) in the Republic of Turkey.
Fifth - Approval of Qatar Tourism's participation in the International Tourism Trade Fair, held in Madrid from Jan. 19 to 23, 2022.
Sixth - The Cabinet reviewed the results of the following meetings and took the appropriate decisions:
1- Results of the second session of the Qatari-Ukrainian joint committee for economic, commercial, and technical cooperation, held in Ukraine in September 2021.
2 - The 31st meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, held in September 2021, held via videoconferencing.
3 - The 19th meeting of the committee of ministers concerned with housing affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held via videoconferencing in September 2021.
