Doha, Qatar: Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), founded by Qatar Foundation (QF), has set plans to expand its ‘My Career-My Future’ programme which offered high school students the opportunity to plan their careers by experiencing real work environments.

Senior Career Programs and Services Officer, QCDC, Shaheen Hamad Al Sulaiti said that plans are underway to attract more students from all schools and collaborate with an increased number of entities.

“We have some new ideas to be implemented in the future editions of the ‘My Career - My Future’ programme, to consider this programme as an initiative to extend collaboration with entities and with schools – to have all the schools QF schools, private and public schools,” he told The Peninsula.

“We are looking for something with more depth and details for schools to be part of this programme as well,” he added.

Aimed at providing high school students with the opportunity to explore a multitude of industries and work environments across Qatar, the ‘My Career-My Future’ programme stimulates creativity and nurtures self-reliance among students by giving them the chance to experience a real work environment at a participating organization of their choice.

This experience will equip them with valuable insights into the different careers within these organizations, the requisite skills for each profession, and a realistic understanding of what to expect in their respective fields.

The programme provides a range of organisations for students to choose from.

These in turn offer hands-on experience across numerous disciplines, including but not limited to, Medicine, Aviation, Media, Filmmaking, Agricultural Engineering, Banking, Social Work, and Education.

According to Al Sulaiti ‘My Career-My Future’ has established itself as a mainstay initiative for QCDC given its substantial importance and remarkable impact.

Speaking about the recently concluded fifth edition of the ‘My Career-My Future’ Al Sulaiti said that the programme saw an increase of 50 % number of students; and the five-day event enabled the students to assess the chosen profession matching their skills and potential, gaining through the process an in-depth understanding of what the job entails and to what extent it aligned with their academic background.

QCDC’s ‘My Career-My Future’ programme is held in Arabic for high school students between 14 and 18 years of age.
