Walker wins third round of Qatar Challenge

Doha: David Walker was the winner of the third round of Qatar Challenge yesterday at the Losail International Circuit together with the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge ME and Radical Cup ME.
The Briton who drives under the Qatari licence didn’t had a good start and from the third place in the starting grid he came to the fifth position. Walker had a nice battle with Eric Febbo and Tim Stevens and finally in the last laps he took the lead until the checkered flag. 
“It was absolutely a fantastic race. to win the race coming from so back was unbelievable as I made a mistake in the start missing the gear, so I ended up to fifth position. The track was perfect with good tyres and amazing grippy track,” Walker said.
Tim Stevens who drives a Honda Civic and Eric Febbo with a Honda Integra grabbed second and third places. “It was an amazing and a tough race, very close racing with great competitors. I am very happy to be in the podium,” Stevens said after the race. Eric Febbo also stated at the end of the race that the track was fantastic and it was an epic race.
In the ceremony, trophies were given by Sultan Zaher Al Morraikhi (QMMF Board Member), Walter Lechner (Head of Lechner Racing) and Rashid Al Sulaiti (QMMF Public Relations Manager).
The winner of the race, Walker is leading the championship with 76 points. Peter DeVido is second with 49 points and Pavel Nedobity with 47 points is in third place.
The next round of Qatar Challenge will be on the 14th and 15th March together with Qatar Superbike.
QMMF President and LIC General Manager Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya said after the events:
“It has been a great weekend at Losail International Circuit, with something new at the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge ME, Qatarí driver, Nasser Saleh Al Attiya participating in this round and also in the coming ones. It adds more value to the competition level and it is also very good for the image of the championship, we are very happy with the performance of the drivers and teams, who gave us a good show. I am really happy for the success of the second race of the season in Qatar of the Porsche championship as you can see in the faces of drivers and teams their happiness of the event running at Losail. Also we had another Championship for first time in Qatar, Radical CUP Middle East and the third round of the Qatar Challenge, so it is something amazing to held three championships in the same weekend. The spectators were very happy with the events of this weekend and they made a good atmosphere in the grandstand. We have started the 2014 with very good events and we are in the good shape in the organisation side, so I would like to thank all who are behind, and media who really support us.”
