Diamond+ disciplines announced for Doha, three other meetings

Doha: The Diamond League has announced which disciplines will receive increased prize money at their events in the first four meetings of the 2025 season. 

The Wanda Diamond League season begins in Xiamen on April 26 and will remain in China for the second meeting of the season in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 3 before heading to Qatar.

The third leg of the series will take place in Doha on May 16 and will be followed by the fourth in Rabat on May 25. 

According to the new prize money structure introduced for the new season, each series meeting can nominate four ‘Diamond+ Disciplines’ (two male and two female), offering higher levels of prize money with the maximum for individual athletes rising from $10,000 to $20,000.

The Diamond + Disciplines announced for the Doha Meeting which will take place at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium are: women’s 1500m, women’s pole vault, men’s 400m hurdles and men’s high jump. 

The Xiamen meeting will see women’s 5000m, women’s high jump, men’s 110m hurdles and men’s pole vault nominated as the Diamond + Disciplines, while the events named for Shanghai/Keqiao meeting are 200m women, shot put women, 100m men and 110m hurdles men. 

Rabat meeting will see women’s 100m, women’s 400m hurdles, men’s 200m and shot put men carried out as the events offering top prize money.

The Diamond+ Disciplines for the next four meetings - Rome, Oslo, Stockholm and Paris - will be announced in April. 

In 2025, Wanda Diamond League meetings will pay out a total of $9.24mn in prize money, the highest total pot in the series’ history.

All prize money is entirely gender-equal, with exactly the same rates for male and female athletes in each discipline.
