Glasgow: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani participated in the opening session of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday.
The opening session was also attended by Their Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses heads of states, governments, delegations, and representatives of the participating regional and international organisations.
The session was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir, Their Excellencies heads of delegations, ranking officials, and guests of the summit.
H H the Amir met yesterday with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, H E Boris Johnson, on the sidelines of the conference. The meeting dealt with reviewing bilateral relations and the means to enhance them, particularly in the fields of defence, security, commerce and investment. The meeting also dealt with reviewing the latest regional and international developments, and topics on the summit’s agenda.
H H the Amir also met with the President of Ukraine, H E Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The meeting dealt with reviewing bilateral relations and means of enhancing them, in addition to discussing the regional and international developments.
In this context, the President of Ukraine expressed his thanks to H H the Amir for the effective contribution of the State of Qatar to the evacuation of civilians, and its unremitting efforts in the peace process in Afghanistan.
The meetings were attended by a number of Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir.
H H the Amir also met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kuwait, H H Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah; Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon, H E Najib Mikati; Prime Minister of the National Unity Government of the State of Libya, H E Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh; Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, H E Dr. Angela Merkel; Prime Minister of Canada, H E Justin Trudeau; Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, H E Mario Draghi; Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, H E Edi Rama; and a number of heads of delegations taking part in the summit.
H H the Amir met with President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H E Abdel Fattah Al Sisi; President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H E Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani; President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and President of the African Union, H E Felix Tshisekedi; President of the Republic of Seychelles, H E Wavel Ramkalawan; President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H E Gotabaya Rajapaksa; and President of the Republic of Armenia, H E Armen Sarkissian.
The meetings reviewed aspects of cooperation and ways of enhancing and developing them, as well as opinions and viewpoints on the most prominent developments in the region, and the most important topics listed on the agenda of the summit. H H the Amir arrived yesterday morning in Glasgow, Scotland, to participate in the COP26.
Upon his arrival at the Glasgow Airport, the Amir was welcomed by the Special Representative of H M Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, H E Lord Peter McCarthy, and a number of senior British officials.
