Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Omar Al Nama and Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Al Ruwaili with students at an introductory meeting at MoEHE yesterday.
Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has launched Training Camps Programme, a unique initiative to provide students with a rich educational experience based on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, finance, and digital science (STEMFD).
“The MoEHE has taken many practical measures to achieve the goals of its strategy, believing that education and practical knowledge both are necessary for the success of human being,” said Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at MoEHE, Maha Al Ruwaili.
She said Training Camps Programme is witnessing the launch of its first preparatory steps by implementing Scientific Camp for Training Students. “It is a unique initiative in providing students with an immersive and rich educational experience based on (STEMFD),” said Al Ruwaili.
She was addressing a meeting organised by MoEHE represented by the Science Section of Educational Guidance Department yesterday.
The meeting aimed at introducing International Junior Science Olympiad 2023 and the Scientific Camp for Training Students.
The event was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Omar Al Nama, principals of public, international and private schools, and over 50 students and their parents, in addition to educational mentors and teachers of the science club in government schools.
Al Ruwaili said the meeting was held following the strategy of the Ministry which provides a roadmap to build an advanced educational system providing citizens with distinct opportunities for education and training, developing their skills, and providing various fields for developing themselves.
Explaining further the Training Camps Programme, she said: “The initiative carefully brings together learners and teachers to ensure the provision of balanced education, practical experience, and life skills, and provides an opportunity to build a community of learners capable of solving life problems in a scientific manner, using their skills in teamwork and cooperation.”
She said the objective of the programme is to inspire learners to reach their full goals, motivate them as much as possible, and push them to succeed in science and technology streams and inspiring practical knowledge that develop their orientations in joining university educational programmes that the country needs to keep pace with fast development. Al Ruwaili noted that these camps will provide an open challenge for learners in tasks that require designing, creating and applying solutions to life problems the world faced by adopting the principles of sustainability.
She said the programmes will be held under the supervision of the most skilled trainers and qualified teachers, in which students learn about their country, Qatar, make friends with their peers from different schools, and exchange experiences that enhance their academic successes on the personal and social levels.
The Scientific Camp for Training students will be organised from May 3 to 15 in the premises of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Scientific Club. The theme of the training programmes is sustainability in which the students will receive training on preserving foods, water security and green energy.
Fatima Al Rashed, Head of the Science Section at the Educational Guidance Department at the Ministry, reviewed the objectives of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), which will be held from December 1-10, 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
She said that Olympiad will discover outstand students, developing their capabilities, refining their skills, enriching their experiences, helping them to identify their scientific orientations, setting their future goals, and fueling the spirit of competition in science and knowledge.
