Ministry of Education and Higher Education building
Doha: The school management affairs department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education issued a circular to amend school hours and reduce it for students of all grades in public schools as of today.
According to this decision, which will be sent by the administration to the directors of the public schools, students will attend school from 7 am to 12:05 pm.
The department said the decision was made out of concern to create appropriate atmosphere for students, in preparation for the upcoming exams.
As for private schools, the Ministry has allowed the schools to decide the timing as the curricula in these schools are different from independent schools.
"Private schools have more than 23 curricula and they all have different requirement when it comes to number of hours or days, so the ministry has left the freedom to choose with private schools," Hamad Al Ghali, Director of Private Schools Licensing at the Ministry, told The Peninsula.
Some private schools have decided to follow the Ministry directive and have sent letters to parents notifying them about the reduction in school hours.
