Doha: The Shura Council held yesterday its regular weekly meeting, under the chairpersonship of Speaker of the Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

During the session, the council discussed the phenomenon of Qataris’ reluctance towards the teaching profession. In this context, the Speaker of the Shura Council pointed out the importance of the teaching profession in raising generations and building societies, explaining that this phenomenon requires finding solutions to set a limit to it, by developing proposals that help concerned authorities to address it.

For their part, members of the Shura Council pointed out that the effects of Qataris’ reluctance to teach are reflected on the quality of education in the country, stressing the necessity to encourage Qataris to head towards the teaching profession - by finding solutions and measures that complements the efforts made by teachers.  After extensive discussions, the council decided to refer the issue to the Information and Cultural Affairs Committee, for further study before submitting the reports in its regard to the council.

Shortly afterwards, the Speaker of the Shura Council briefed the council on his meeting with HE President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune, noting that the meeting reviewed several topics related to the bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance and develop joint parliamentary action between Qatar and Algeria.

The council was also briefed on a report regarding the visit of a delegation from the African Regional Organization of the International Trade Union Confederation to the Shura Council.  In the same context, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti pointed out that during the visit, a number of topics related to the organisation’s efforts to protect and promote workers’ rights and ways to support those efforts were reviewed, in addition to the important role played by the State of Qatar in this field, and the Shura Council’s support for these efforts.

The members of the council commended the meetings and visits, affirming that they contribute to strengthening relations of joint cooperation, as well as enhancing and highlighting the role of the council, whether at the local or external levels. Secretary-General of the Shura Council H E Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala had read out the agenda of the session at its outset, and the minutes of the previous session have also been ratified.
