Marco Casamento steered Sayaad to a thrilling win to clinch the Muaither Cup at the Al Rayyan Racecourse, yesterday. 

Al Ghazali Stud’s four-year-colt, who was trailing in the race, made a last-gasp surge to seal Purebred Arabian Handicap – the feature race during Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) 24th Race Meeting. 

QREC Acting CEO Bader Mohammed Al Darwish presented the trophies to the winners, who also pocketed QR57000.   

Earlier, Casamento also helmed Injaaz Stud’s Fahd De Faust to title in the 1500m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-85). The Julian Smart-trained six-year-old registered a two and a quarter-length victory.

Also yesterday, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s Festive returned to winning ways, landing the 1500m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-100). 

Faleh Bughanaim rode the Ali Al Kubaisi-trained seven-year-old mare to quarter of a length win. 

In The Night, with Tomas Lukasek in the saddle, was victorious in the 2350m Thoroughbred Handicap after a brilliant run. Owned and trained by Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki, the horse recorded three and a half lengths win, completing a double.

The Local Thoroughbred Handicap race saw Eng. Osama Omer Al Dafea-owned & trained Jadeed reigning supreme by 1½ lengths. Ronan Thomas rode the four-year-old colt in the 1750m run. 

Notalot, Maamoura and Gharah also notched up thrilling victories yesterday.
