Chef Don Eranga
Doha, Qatar: Chef Don Eranga has been appointed as the new Executive Chef at Crowne Plaza Doha West Bay, an IHG hotel.
Chef Eranga is not new to IHG. In 2002, he began his IHG journey at The InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, where he worked for more than 20 years. He began as Commis III and was later promoted as Chef De Cuisine at the Doha Golf Club.
He brings with him almost three decades of rich culinary expertise, specialising in Asian, Thai and Arabic cuisine.
Originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka, he discovered his passion for cooking at an early age of 12 years when he used to help his mother prepare food for the family. He decided to turn this passion into a profession and took formal education in culinary arts. In 1996, he received his International Cookery Diploma from Sirimedura Hotel School in Sri Lanka.
Chef Eranga is well-known for his passion and he believes that cooking should always be done with love.
He said: “Being a chef is a path for passionate people. I always encourage my team to cook with love and passion. The guests can always tell whether a food is prepared with love or not. This is why whenever I cook, I pour all my passion, creativity and energy into it.”
Aside from cooking, he also enjoys spending his free time travelling with his family, cycling, and collecting cooking books from which he continues to learn new ideas and techniques.
Commenting on his new appointment, Chef Eranga said: “I am thrilled to take on this new position and to continue my journey in IHG with Crowne Plaza Doha West Bay. The hotel has great potential and my new team and I are ready to create exciting culinary surprises for our beloved guests.”
