Doha, Qatar: Registration for the fifth edition of the Al Mina Pearl Diving Competition for kids aged 10-15 continues until June 10 at the Beaches Department at Katara Cultural Village.
The competition itself will run from June 15-17.
Saeed Al Kuwari, supervisor of the competition said the fifth edition, which is launched by the Beach Administration in Katara after a break due to the pandemic, is witnessing a remarkable turnout by Qatari children who flock to the Beach Administration with their parents to register for the marine competition.
The competition, launched by Katara is within the framework of its continuous efforts to preserve the Qatari maritime heritage and encourage young people to adhere to their original marine heritage and learn about all its details through live activities that document their relationship with the sea and simulate the same life that parents and grandparents lived in the past during the era of pearl diving.
Al Kuwari indicated that the number of children who have registered so far has reached 30, as the competition is still open to the participation of young people within the age group determined by the organizing committee of the competition, provided that the contestant is medically fit in addition to his physical fitness.
He explained that registration ends on June 10, and those wishing to register should go to the Beaches Department, fifth floor, from 10am until 3pm.
Al Kuwari added that the activities of the fifth edition will begin on June 15 (Dashha Day), where the participating bearings with the little divers on board will gather on Katara Beach, and will continue until June 17, which is the day that will witness the conclusion of the competition and the return of the little divers.
He added that the competing children will be divided into teams of 12 participants each, where each team will be accompanied by Noukhatha, Majdami and Rdif.
