Indian Embassy in Doha said that overseas citizens in Qatar could now register or enroll themselves in the electoral rolls to become part of the election process.
The embassy in its statement on social media mentioned that the application can be filed in the prescribed form in person before the Electoral Registration Officer or sent by post or filed online on the website of the Chief Electoral Office of the state or website of Election Commission of India.
Once registered, the person can cast vote in India during the Assembly or Parliamentary elections after showing his/her Indian passport.
Embassy explained that under section 20A of the Representation of People Act, 1950, every Indian whose name is not included in the electoral roll, who has not acquired citizenship of other country and who is absent from his place of residence in India is entitled to have their name registered as an overseas elector. The citizen can register in the constituency in his/her place of residence in India as mentioned in the passport.
