The second edition of the Smart City Expo Doha concluded yesterday at Msheireb Downtown Doha. A significant number of visitors attended the two-day event, which brought together senior officials and industry experts. It was organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Fira Barcelona International with the support of Qatar’s innovative Smart Qatar Program TASMU. H E Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development at MCIT, said, “Smart City Expo Doha has been a great success and the catalyst for cities, companies and experts to come together and suggest innovative, sustainable and eco-friendly solutions to the challenges facing the world’s major cities.
“Whether it is the government’s digital delivery of public services, the transformation of key national industries, or the seed-funding and grassroots support of innovative entrepreneurship, smart solutions continue to make a big impact in Qatar.”
Over 70 local and international speakers, more than 90 sponsors and exhibitors, 37 local and international start-up enterprises, 11 government entities and ten universities participated in the expo, underlining their commitment to Qatar’s sustainability drive and for a connected future.
Fira Barcelona CEO Ricard Zapatero said Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD) encapsulates the essence of the expo. He noted that the event has ensured exchange of ideas to direct the world towards exploring more smart city options. “Smart City Expo is not only about philosophy, it’s also about looking for ideas and solutions and business opportunities behind these ideas,” Zapatero said.
“We have had some exciting sessions, especially with talks exploring making smart cities better. Doha has organised one of the most international editions of any smart city expo. It has been one of the most innovative sessions, discussions and themes. It has been one of the most accessible that we have ever had. “I can assure you that having lived the smart city experience here, it has been the most, and our visitors have had a real experience in being in a real smart city, and that has been such a success,” he added.
The Smart City Expo Doha 2022 was held under the theme “Sustaining a Future of Resilience”.
