Around 50 percent more driving licences were issued in October 2017 when compared with September this year on MoM basis.
According to Qatar Monthly Statistics released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, 9,823 driving licences were issued in October 2017 compared to 6,515 licences issued in September this year.
The status indicates a significant increase in issuance of driving licences to Qatari and expatriate females. In September, 117 non-Qatari females received driving licences and the number increased to 1,991 in October 2017 registering around 1,600 percent increase when both months are compared on MoM basis.
In October, 7,061 non-Qatari men received licences compared to 5,864 licences issued to expatriate males in September registering around 20 percent increase.
According to official figures, the clearing of vehicles also increased significantly in October 2017. In September, as many as 74,445 vehicles got cleared and the number increased to 109, 034 in October 2017 registering a 46.5 percent increase on MoM basis.
Registration of new vehicles has also witnessed a 54.8 percent increase in October compared to September this year. In October, 6,407 new vehicles were registered while it was 4,140 in September.
In October, as many as 137, 376 traffic violations of various kinds were registered. This is a 38.6percent increase compared to September 2017 in which the number of registered traffic violations was 99, 135. In October, as many as 75,689 violations are related to speeding.
When October 2017 is compared with same month of the last year – October 2016 – there is a 14.9 percent decrease in traffic violations. In October 2016, as many as 161,353 traffic violations had been registered.
The figures also reveal an increase of around 44 percent in traffic accidents when October 2017 is compared with September this year on MoM basis.
In September 2017, a total of 417 traffic accidents occurred while the number increased to 603 in October 2017. As many as 117 traffic accidents happened in Al Mamoura followed by Al Rayyan with 91 accidents in October 2017.
