Doha: Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) announced yesterday that ExxonMobil will be the title sponsors of the Qatar Open 2013, marking the 19th consecutive year the company has sponsored the tournament.
Scheduled from tomorrow to Janaury 5, this event is one of the major highlights on the Qatar sports calendar and the international tennis circuit, enticing some of the top players in the world to compete in Doha in the first ATP World Tour event of the year.
The Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2013 will see 2012 finalist Gael Monfils, world No. 5 David Ferrer and France’s Richard Gasquet lead a star-studded field of 32 international players.
Held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, tickets for the six-day event are available to the public online at www.qatartennis.org as well as various locations in Doha.
Nasser Al Khelaifi, Qatar Tennis Federation’s President stressed that the Federation is delighted to continue its cooperation with ExxonMobil Qatar and highlighted the company’s contributions to tennis tournaments organised by QTF.
“Qatar Tennis Federation is proud of the support we have received from ExxonMobil Qatar for 19 consecutive years,” he said.
“This is the 21st year of the tournament and this sponsorship enables us to continue to deliver a high quality event for both players and attendees and helps elevate the profile of tennis in Qatar,” he added.
“The Qatar ExxonMobil Open has stood as one of the premier sporting events in Qatar for more than two decades, consistently attracting some of the biggest stars in the world of tennis while shining a spotlight on Doha,” said Bart Cahir, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Inc.
“The tournament’s longevity and ongoing success contribute to Qatar’s recognition and selection as a first-rate host to world-class sporting events. This is a direct reflection of the outstanding team at Qatar Tennis Federation led by Nasser Al Khelaifi, with whom we are extremely proud to partner year after year.”
The tournament will feature many exciting elements off the court, including the Public Village, VIP Village, player autograph sessions in the ExxonMobil booth, a traditional souq, a kid’s zone, and various merchandising booths.
Again this year, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2013 will promote the successful matching program for public contributions made to the Qatar Paralympics Committee during the tournament each year – an organization that ExxonMobil Qatar has supported for many years.
This initiative has resulted in donations to the Qatar Paralympics Committee of more than QR1.5m since 2010, enabling many individuals with disabilities to integrate into society through sports activities.
In addition to its ongoing support for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and its community efforts in relation to the tournament, ExxonMobil continued its sponsorship of the ExxonMobil Qatar Youth Nationals tournament, also in conjunction with Qatar Tennis Federation.
This year’s tournament was held on December 3-10.
ExxonMobil’s sponsorship of the youth tournament demonstrates the company’s broader commitment to support and develop future Qatari champions, while encouraging support and interest for the game of tennis, and promoting healthy active lifestyles among young people.
