Doha: The Ministry of Culture organised Community Days for Mauritania, the Philippines, and India, as part of the Cultural Diversity Festivals held on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Each community day of the three countries was marked with a showcase of their rich cultural programme through various performances — dancing, singing, and exhibition of arts and handicrafts.
Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Mauritania in Qatar, H E Mohamed Abdulaziz Mohamedou congratulated Qatar on the success of the opening and organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He also praised the cultural character that marked the tournament, as the country allocated different cultural spaces for this occasion, which showed the Arab-Islamic character of this tournament, and enabled the fans of the participating teams to introduce their cultures.
The cultural programme of the Mauritanian community also included the presentation of various aspects of its popular culture that reflected diversity and inclusiveness. A presentation was made about “Al Mahdara Al Shanqitiya” (religious school), during which the audience learned about the method of authentic education in Al Mahadhir and how to prepare students from the stage of infancy to the stage of memorising the Holy Qur’an, texts and jurisprudential interpretations.
Philippine cultural day meanwhile presented a cultural dress fashion show for kids and adults, a cultural dance number - mascara parade and dance, and modern Harana, among others. It also featured Philippine crafts, dresses and accessories.
During the Indian cultural day, performances included: Haryanvi dance, kolkali, dandiya dance, Oppana, Punjabi bangara dance, duff mutt, peacock dance, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, Malayalam songs, musical sculpture and folk songs. Various paintings of artist Abdul Basit were also exhibited, and an exhibition of mehndi designs, handicrafts, Islamic calligraphy, and various food items was held.
