After portraying a tragic hero in Ennu Ninde Moideen, Prithviraj has gone the complete opposite with his role as Amar, a toy car driver who gives an impression of being a pilot to his girlfriends in his movie Amar Akbar Anthony.
Akbar and Anthony portrayed by Jayasurya and Indrajith are his pangalis or friends. The movie is about these three who keep aside their monthly savings for a trip to Pattaya. Only that every time fate interferes and the money is spent on some other emergency. Parallel to their humorous travails is the kidnapping of children that occurs in their neighborhood. The story evolves when these tragic incidents turn the life of these three upside down. Though a comedy, it has certain emotional element too that leave you moist-eyed.
The movie has many lighter moments between the three friends and their money problems that result in various situational comedy. One such scenario is when Akbar is beaten up by some local goons, the other two with lot of drama set out to exact revenge only that their bike doesn’t start and they end up repairing it.
Nadir Shah in his debut movie has dealt with the issue of child abuse and humour with such beauty that it leaves you feeling good. Shah has been successful as a director in bringing out the best performance from all his three actors.
The music could have been better but one that catches your attention is Yendo Njaan Ende sung by Baby Sreya.
All in all the movie is entertaining and worth a repeat watch too.
