New York: Martin St Louis reached 1,000 career NHL points with a goal and an assist in the New York Rangers’ 3-0 win at Philadelphia Flyers.
St Louis struck in the second period after Dan Boyle had opened the scoring, with Rick Nash adding a third as the Rangers shut out the Flyers for the second time in nine days. Philadelphia have lost seven of their last eight games and held a players’ meeting after Wednesday’s thumping in Detriot, but it failed to have the desired effect and they were booed off the ice in the third period.
“This is a better team than we’re playing right now and that our record is showing,” said Flyers general manager Ron Hextall.
“We have to get going, no doubt about it. I’m not happy with our record and our overall performance.”
The Boston Bruins returned to winning ways as Dougie Hamilton’s overtime goal sealed a 2-1 success over Winnipeg Jets.
Winnipeg took an early lead through Dustin Byfuglien but Milan Lucic equalised for the Bruins in the third period before Hamilton struck in overtime.
“I think we really wanted a good start, didn’t have it and squeaked the two points like we have in the past,” said Hamilton, who also provided an assist for Lucic’s goal.
“I don’t know how we do it, but two points is two points, I guess.”
Elsewhere, the Vancouver Canucks recorded a 5-0 win over Columbus Blue Jackets, the Chicago Blackhawks were impressive 4-1 victors at the Anaheim Ducks, while the New Islanders’ five-game winning streak was brought to an emphatic end in Washington, where the Capitals ran out 5-2 winners. Agencies
