DOHA: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday inaugurated the headquarters of South Security Department and a services centre in Al Wakrah.
He toured the administration building sections and was briefed on facilities and security services as well as modern electronic devices which contribute to services provided to citizens and expatriates.
The Premier also toured Al Wakrah services complex affiliated to the Unified Services Department, which provides services related to traffic, passports, and visas, among others.
After the opening of Al Wakrah Services Complex, senior officials of the Ministry of Interior held a press briefing to provide details. In the complex in Al Wukair area, expatriates can apply for family visas.
There are also facilities for video-conferencing with the committee that interviews family visa applicants.
Once an expatriate has applied for family visa, he will be given appointment and he must visit the complex on the appointed date for interview with the committee through video-conferencing.
The complex has offices of the Traffic Department, offices of insurance companies and bank branches. It also has the office of Criminal Evidence and Information Department.
There are lock-ups for police remand cases. The complex has parking facilities for 434 cars. There are separate sections for men and women. These include a shaded lot for 156 vehicles inside the complex and an outside area for 125.
There are 39 counters in the services complex and some of which are reserved for people with special needs and the elderly. Separate entrances are there for these categories of people.
The press meet was addressed by Brigadier Mohamed Ahmed Al Atiq and Brigadier Mohamed Jassem Al Sulaiti in the presence of other senior officials of the ministry. The centre will serve residents of Al Wakrah and those living nearby.
The premise for unified services complex covers an area of 2,559sqm.
A separate building has also been constructed to provide passport services for Qataris. The lock-ups covers an area of 1,627sqm.
It is a branch of the Nationality and Travel Documents Department (Immigration Department) and will also issue passports to citizens and renew them. Smart ID cards will be also issued to Qataris.
