Doha, Qatar: Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) 2024 is being marked across the country from September 28 to October 5 with an aim to impact a large number of community members with hundreds of events, creating a movement for positive change.

Organised by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future (Earthna), a member of Qatar Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and several other entities, QSW 2024 will host over 400 events and initiatives being delivered by over 200 organisers including members of the public, government and non-government organisations, and businesses.

One of the important features of QSW 2024 will be the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change (QNDCC), which is being held for the first time as part of the week’s activities, said Executive Director of Earthna, Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, while addressing a press conference held at Think Bay in Education City yesterday.

QNDCC will be held on October 1 and 2 and it is aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development. QNDCC will provide an open forum for exploring new innovations and opportunities to tackle climate change.

Emphasising the significance of QSW, Dr. Mata said, “We know that future economic prosperity and societal wellbeing is directly linked to our commitment to sustainability. To achieve our environmental goals, and to ensure a resilient and promising future for generations to come, it is essential that we encourage collective effort to enhance awareness and drive action to address the pressing sustainability challenges and opportunities of our time. This ambition is at the very heart of QSW’s mission.”

This is the ninth edition QSW. The strategic partners of QSW 2024 — including the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Kahramaa’s Tarsheed, the Ministry of Municipality, Ashghal, Qatar Museums, Msheireb Properties, British Council, Snoonu, Seashore, Doha Festival City, Al Meera, Lulu Hypermarket, Al Awalia, Microsoft, and Agrico — were also present at the event.

Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada, highlighted the importance of QSW and QNDCC saying that the events seek to reach large number of people.

He said QNDCC will play a major role in conducting serious discussions between national institutions, which will contribute to identifying further steps and initiatives to address climate challenges.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Mohammed Abdulla Jassim Al Muhannadi said that during QSW, the ministry will raise awareness and aim at reinforcing the role of youth in creating a positive change in the environment and sustainability. He added that the ministry will host over 40 activities through youth centres and clubs.

QSW 2024 will also host a number of workshops on sustainability topics including water management, circular economy, Islamic environmental values, ways to model energy systems, and others.
