Doha: The cybersecurity sector constituted 15 percent of the 14th Milipol Qatar exhibition, Francois Jullien, Milipol Events Director, has said. With the growing reliance on the digital space for everyday activities, constantly evolving cybersecurity systems have become imperative.

“Cybersecurity sector is 15 percent of the exhibitors. The only sector above that is mega event management, which is access control identification, crowd monitoring, etc. So it does speak a lot to the importance of cyber criminality,” Jullien told The Peninsula. “What’s also important is the pace at which innovation goes. Every year, every two months, what you have been thinking about fighting cyber criminality is obsolete, and you have to think of something new. Criminality is learning and learning very fast, and law enforcement has to keep up,” he added.

Jullien stressed that Milipol plays a significant role. “We bring the new technologies, allow small companies, even startups, to present their product or innovation on a global stage because Millipol is a network.” According to Jullien, the acceleration of innovation by criminals needs to be addressed.

“Nowadays, it’s much easier to procure many things through the dark web. Criminals tend to be better equipped, so the protection of police officers and police cars need to be better. Criminals are getting very good with technology, weapons, and every kind of equipment can be found easier than before. So homeland security needs to adapt to all these.” The biennial Milipol Qatar is an international event for homeland security and civil defence in the Middle East.
